Pixel Shift Multi Shooting responds to changing conditions
Pixel Shift Multi Shooting uses the precision in-body image stabilisation system to capture multiple pixel-shifted images that are later composited on a PC to achieve overwhelming resolution in a single image. 16-image composites with approximately 240.8 million pixels (19008 x 12672 pixels) can be produced from data that is equivalent to approximately 963.2 million pixels
Anti-flicker shooting
Flicker from artificial light is automatically detected, and the timing and speed of the mechanical or electronic shutter is finely controlled to minimise its effects.
Selectable RAW image sizes and HEIF
Three sizes (L/M/S) of lossless RAW compression include M and S outputs to the same resolution (26 MP/15 MP) for full-frame and APS-C, for seamless workflows. The light mode for JPEG and HEIF images produces easy-to-share images.
Creative Look supports varied expression
The Creative Look feature provides 10 presets that can be used unmodified or edited to create a variety of “looks” that can help creators fine-tune the mood of their stills or movies in-camera.
Lenses that bring out the maximum resolution performance of the α7CR
Sony’s lineup of optically advanced E-mount lenses features more than 70 models, including the G Master™ series that blends breathtaking resolution with exquisite bokeh, and the G Lens™ series with excellent image quality and smooth bokeh. While taking full advantage of the resolution and rendering potential of Sony’s acclaimed E-mount bodies, these fine lenses are compact and lightweight, ideally matching E-mount bodies to create remarkably compact, mobile systems for a wide range of photographic and videographic applications.
Evolving with AF
AI processing unit for advanced subject recognition
The AI processing unit supports recognition of human subjects using learnt human form and pose data, and also recognition of non-human subjects such as animals, insects and vehicles. This improves the performance of Real-time Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking, and makes Fast Hybrid AF subject acquisition and tracking more precise and reliable over a wider area.
Human pose estimation using a skeleton-based model
With its innovative AI processing unit, the α7CR can use subject form data to accurately recognise movement, providing a significant improvement in human eye recognition. Human pose estimation technology recognises not just eyes, but also body and head position with high precision. This makes it possible to lock onto and track a subject facing away from the camera or with their face partly obscured by a helmet or sunglasses, for example.
Recognition of a wider range of subjects
The AI processing unit supports recognition of more subject types including the eyes of an even wider range of grazing and small animals and birds. A new combined Animal/Bird setting eliminates switching. Also recognises the whole or the leading end of cars/trains and aeroplanes, and the heads of insects.
Tenacious Real-time Tracking
AI-based Real-time Tracking can be activated by specifying the subject and half-pressing the shutter button. The camera automatically tracks the subject, letting the user concentrate on framing and composition. Subject recognition performance and tracking reliability have been greatly improved across a wider range of shooting situations.
Wide, high-density AF reliably captures subjects
The BIONZ XR engine and updated algorithms achieve notably improved Fast Hybrid AF performance. Up to 693 phase detection points cover approx. 79% of the image area, accurately acquiring focus even when the subject is small. The α7CR includes both phase-detection and contrast-detection AF to ensure fast, stable focus acquisition even in single AF (AF-S) mode.
High-precision AF works even in dark scenes with EV –4.0
The latest AF algorithm enables AF shooting in low-light conditions, at EV -4.0 (AF-S, ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens) even in dark scenes and indoors, and features a useful Focus Priority mode.
Full-time DMF
When shooting stills with AF-C or AF-S autofocus, the lens’s focus ring can be rotated to instantly switch to manual focus mode at any time. This makes it easy to switch focus to a different subject on the fly.
Focus bracketing to capture the best shot
The camera will automatically shoot up to 299 images with sequentially shifted focus points, with custom intervals and sequence specified by the user. Pick the perfect shot, or post-process multiple shots to achieve creative composites with impossible focus depth.
AF/AE continuous shooting at up to 8fps
Continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking is possible at up to 8 fps with the mechanical shutter or 7 fps during silent shooting, capturing even momentary movements or expression changes in exquisite detail. The power of the BIONZ XR engine allows continuous shooting of approx. 320 JPEG images, letting you capture every vital moment. Even when shooting or cropping closer to APS-C, 26M resolution and high image quality are maintained, allowing continuous shooting of birds in flight with AF/AE tracking, for example.
Full-frame 4K 60/50p recording
The latest BIONZ XR processing engine and updated algorithms achieve notably improved movie image quality. In addition to focus support, the camera’s advanced AI processing unit is also used to achieve accurate white balance, even in tricky situations where the subject is in shade. Skin tones, foliage and other materials are reproduced with consistently natural colour in just about any type of lighting, and gradations such as highlight roll off in portraits are remarkably lifelike.
6.2k oversampled video, for stunning 4K imagery
4K movie recording is possible in full frame and Super 35 mm formats. With full pixel readout without pixel binning, approx. 2.6 times the required data can be condensed into 4K with high resolution and detail, and minimal moiré and jaggies.
S-Cinetone makes it easy to create a cinematic look
Sony’s S-Cinetone picture profile delivers more faithful colour reproduction and skin tones, with natural mid-tones essential to healthy-looking skin, plus soft colours and gorgeous highlights, giving creators a cinematic look without the need for colour grading.
Log recording and LUT
The α7CR features an S-Log3 gamma curve to maximise its 14+ stops of latitude. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine colour gamut settings are also provided for further post processing control, and user-selected LUTs (Look Up Table) can be applied to preview how processed footage will look.
Active Mode image stabilisation supports handheld movie shooting
Active Mode provides precision stabilisation for movie shooting with advanced gyro sensors and an optimised algorithm. Camera shake is precisely detected and compensated for, with additional stabilisation provided via compatible lenses in sync with the camera body.
Real-time Tracking also supports focus during movie shooting
AI-based Real-time Tracking provides a dramatic improvement in Real-time Tracking performance, automatically recognising, tracking, and focusing on the eyes of a specified subject.
Excellent connectivity
Easy, stable transfers to smartphone
Connection stability when transferring images from the camera to the Creators’ App mobile application on a smartphone has been greatly improved. Transfers continue in the background even if the smartphone display sleeps or another application is launched.
Easy, high-quality live streaming
Connected to a PC or smartphone via USB, the α7CR can function as a 4K (2160p) webcam. Large-aperture lenses, narrow depth of field and bokeh can be used to great effect for online meetings and live streaming along with advanced AF functions such as Real-time Recognition AF.
