SONY FE 100MM F/2.8 MACRO GM LENS
The Sony FE 100 mm F/2.8 Macro GM is a newly announced, high-end macro prime from Sony’s premium “G Master” lineup. It brings “beyond life-size” macro capability — with a maximum magnification of 1.4× (i.e. larger than life-size) — letting you capture extremely fine detail of small subjects (insects, textures, small objects, macro still-life).
Built for versatility beyond macro, it balances sharpness, gorgeous bokeh, and robust build quality, making it usable not only for close-ups, but also for portraits, creative tight-frame compositions, and video work. With internal focusing, optical stabilization, weather sealing and advanced coatings, it’s engineered for professional usage even in challenging environments.
Key Features
Large Magnification (1.4×)
Macro reproduction ratio goes beyond 1:1, enabling close-ups with more detail and creative freedom.
Teleconverter Compatibility (1.4× and 2×)
With optional teleconverters, magnification can go up to ~2.8× — useful for very small subjects or when you need more working distance.
High-Quality Optics (G Master Line)
Combines sharp resolution with smooth, pleasing background blur (bokeh), thanks to 17 elements in 13 groups including XA & ED elements, plus an 11-blade circular aperture.
Built-in Optical Stabilization (OSS)
Helps mitigate shake — especially useful when shooting handheld macro, for video, or in low light.
Fast, Quiet Autofocus with Four XD Linear Motors
Offers high-speed, precise and near-silent autofocus — great for macro, wildlife, or video where focus-hunting and noise can be issues.
Flexible Manual/Auto Focus Controls
Sliding focus ring to instantly switch AF ⇄ MF, focus-hold buttons, focus-range limiter, and a de-clickable aperture ring — useful for macro precision and video work.
Weather-Sealed, Durable Build
Dust and moisture resistance and a fluorine-coated front element (repels water, oil, fingerprints) for reliability outdoors.
Full-Frame Coverage (E-Mount)
Works on full-frame mirrorless bodies, and on APS-C bodies gives a ~150 mm equivalent field of view — useful for tight portraits or distant macro subjects.
